Η Nicosia For Art και το National Theatre Live παρουσιάζουν την κινηματογραφική προβολή της παράστασης “Dr. Strangelove” του Stanley Kubrick

Η Nicosia For Art, σε συνεργασία με το National Theatre Live, παρουσιάζει την κινηματογραφική εκδοχή της θεατρικής παράστασης “Dr. Strangelove” του Stanley Kubrick συν-διασκευασμένο από τους Armando Iannucci και Sean Foley και σε σκηνοθεσία του Sean Foley. Η προβολή θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τρίτη 27 Φεβρουαρίου 2026 (20:30), στο Δημοτικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας.

Η παράσταση “Dr. Strangelove” θεωρείται μία από τις κορυφαίες κωμωδίες όλων των εποχών, που τιμά την κληρονομιά του Kubrick και την επικαιρότητα της ιστορίας, 60 χρόνια μετά.

Βασισμένη στην ψυχροπολεμική κωμωδία του 1964 από τον Stanley Kubrick, ο Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge, The Trip) πρωταγωνιστεί στη νέα αυτή διασκευή για το θεατρικό σανίδι από τον Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It) και τον Sean Foley (The Upstart Crow), αναλαμβάνοντας τους εμβληματικούς ρόλους του Peter Sellers.

Η ιστορία

Η ιστορία αντανακλά την αγωνία για τον πυρηνικό πόλεμο που κορυφώθηκε στα μέσα του 20ού αιώνα, ανάμεσα σε ΗΠΑ – Ρωσία. Όταν ένας ατίθασος Αμερικανός στρατηγός πυροδοτεί μια πυρηνική επίθεση, ένας σουρεαλιστικός αγώνας δρόμου ξεκινά, καθώς η κυβέρνηση και ένας εκκεντρικός επιστήμονας προσπαθούν να αποτρέψουν την παγκόσμια καταστροφή. Nicosia For Art, in collaboration with National Theatre Live, presents the filmed version of the theatre production “Dr. Strangelove” by Stanley Kubrick, co-adapted by Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley, and directed by Sean Foley. The screening will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2026 (20:30), at the Municipal Theatre of Nicosia

“Dr. Strangelove” is considered one of the greatest comedies of all time, honouring Kubrick’s legacy and the enduring relevance of its story, 60 years later.

Based on Kubrick’s 1964 Cold War comedy, Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge, The Trip) stars in this new stage adaptation by Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It) and Sean Foley (The Upstart Crow), taking on the iconic roles originally played by Peter Sellers.

The Story

The story reflects the anxiety surrounding nuclear war that peaked in the mid-20th century between USA and Russia. When a rogue American general triggers a nuclear attack, a surreal race against time begins, as the government and an eccentric scientist try to prevent global catastrophe. This explosively funny satire comes from a world-renowned creative team, including Emmy Award-winner Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It, Veep) and two-time Olivier Award-winner Sean Foley (The Upstart Crow).

The original film is based on the novel “Red Alert” by Peter George. Unlike Kubrick’s film, the book does not include the dark comedic elements or the character of Dr. Strangelove. In the 1964 film, Peter Sellers famously played three roles: Dr. Strangelove, Captain Mandrake and President Muffley. In this stage adaptation of Kubrick’s comedic masterpiece, Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Partridge, The Trip, Philomena, The Lost King) plays four – those originally played by Sellers plus Major TJ Kong in the final act. Steve Coogan has won seven BAFTA awards, three British Comedy Awards, and has received two Oscar nominations and one Golden Globe nomination.
